September Restaurant Feature is RED 36

With fall officially here, we had to make our way to another one of your waterfront favorites before the cold weather rushes in. Sunny days in Mystic almost demand a stop at RED 36, the restaurant that attracts locals and tourists alike.

The Appeal

Why is RED 36 so appealing? The restaurant pays as much attention to the vibe as it does the food and drink. They have created the ultimate coastal dining experience, full of shiplap, anchors, and lobster traps. And the decor is just the start. The incredible views of docks filled with upscale boats, the river, and Mystic life is alluring. In warm months, the walls of windows open completely, leading to the outdoor bar and huge outdoor dining deck. Salty air, warm breezes, and a carefree spirit that only summer can bring engulf the entire establishment.

Food

While the openness of the restaurant make it a perfect place to socialize, the food stands out on its own. Focusing on fresh, quality food, RED 36 features seafood dishes, a wide variety of appetizers, and flatbread pizzas with a menu that changes seasonally. Some of our favorite appetizers were the Smoked Salmon Chips with spicy remoulade and capers and the Crispy Duck Wings with a honey chili glaze. For entrees, you can’t go wrong with the classic Fish ‘n’ Chips, Seafood Paella, or any of the sizable salads for a lighter choice.

Cocktails

The cocktail menu features creative, well-balanced drinks that are refreshing on the palette. This summer, drinks were highlighted with seasonal ingredients like cucumber, mint, thyme, and jalapeño. Check out the Winetails by the Water feature in Connecticut Food and Magazine for recipes to RED 36’s delicious cocktails made with wine.

RED 36 was a great way to close out a summer full of delicious food, drinks, and wonderful company.
