Live Where You Play: Custom Built Homes at Fox Hopyard

Choosing a home that fits your needs and desires is a daunting task. There’s bound to be something you want to change after you move in – whether it’s the paint color in the living room or finishing the basement. For buyers with the timeline and desire, custom built is a solution to this.

An Early Start in Construction

Nick Uccello, President of Uccello Development, is a third-generation builder. As a child, Nick spent time on his father’s construction sites completing small jobs: sweeping, cleaning up, organizing materials. It wasn’t long before he started to appreciate the process of building homes.

In 2009, after years of being interested in the development at Fox Hopyard Golf Club in East Haddam, CT, Nick reached out to ask if they wanted to work with an exclusive builder. They said yes, and Uccello Development has been building custom homes on the property ever since.

Classic New England Style with Modern Amenities

Inspired by classic New England charm, The Residences at Fox Hopyard are sophisticated and timeless custom-built homes, merging masterful design and modern luxury.

The homes are spread throughout the sprawling property of the golf course, each with its own unique view. Wide-open floor plans, first-floor master bedrooms, marble accents, and top-of-the-line appliances are just the start. Entering a home feels like you are stepping into a luxury retreat; one where every single detail has been thoughtfully planned and delivered.

In addition to gorgeous design, each house is built sustainably with green construction and a high-performance installation package. Homes are equipped with high-efficiency geothermal heating and cooling, a clean form of energy that provides incredible tax benefits to homeowners.

“I get to build houses there that you don’t get to build elsewhere,” Nick said. “The neighborhood asks for it.”

No Two are the Same

The Residences at Fox Hopyard is not your typical development, where a few models are repeated throughout the entire community.

In fact, no two homes are the same in this development.

While every home does maintain the classic New England shingle-style look, every floor plan is unique. Every time Uccello Development builds a spec house, it is different from the one before. Currently, there are 11 different stock plans that buyers can choose from, and every version can be altered to meet the needs of the owner.

“Every time I do a spec house, I do a custom one and add it to the list,” Nick explained. “We can build those plans, we can do a customized version of a stock plan, or build a totally custom home.”

Maureen Sullivan, who moved into her custom house two years ago, appreciates the variety in homes.

“They are all very different. I would propose (Nick) learns from each experience and makes changes,” Maureen said.

Master Planned Community

The golf course is just the beginning of the community at Fox Hopyard. Impeccable grounds are beautiful in all seasons. There are also tennis courts for a change of pace, as well as a clubhouse with restaurant.

Craig Kent, who has lived in the community for three years, said, “It’s so nice to say, you know what, I don’t feel like cooking. I’m going to walk to the restaurant and have a great meal.”

Craig is looking forward to watching the community grow even more as new houses are built. As more people move in, privacy remains a crucial component in the design of the development. Each home is nestled into smaller enclaves to foster a sense of community without sacrificing treasured privacy.

Working with a Builder

The homes at the Residences at Fox Hopyard are all about choice. The customization process transforms each house into a unique and elegant abode, featuring luxurious touches. Every detail is carefully selected and quality crafted, including granite countertops, custom cabinetry, marble master bath, and gourmet chef’s kitchen.

Craig explains that while the end product is exceptional, you have to be patient throughout the build.

“Nick is awesome, we worked together,” Craig shared. “But building a house from scratch is not for the faint of heart. If you want some customization, it’s work, but Nick is willing to work with you on all that. ”

It can take up to 90 days to fully customize a plan and price it out. For buyers who choose one of the stock options, not as much time is needed in this initial stage. From there, owners remain in communication with Nick as the build is taking place.

Once construction is complete and owners move in, Nick and his team are available for the residents.

Maureen explained, “It’s great to have him here and still involved. When we reach out to him, he is always responsive. I would work with him again in a heartbeat.”
