March’s Restaurant Feature is Café Routier

Café Routier has been a well-known restaurant in Middlesex County for over 20 years, but they still manage to keep things fresh. Located in Westbrook, the restaurant opens daily at 5:00 pm for dinner, and includes a formal dining room, cozy bar, and eclectic lounge.

OUR EXPERIENCE

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon as doors opened. All three areas of the restaurant quickly filled up with guests, many of whom were regulars. Café Routier keeps patrons happy with inspired menus, a well-crafted cocktail list, and friendly service.

FOOD AND DRINK

Regulars continue to come back for good reason. They know they can return for their favorite dish, or try something new by choosing from a regional or seasonal menu. The Regional Menu features fare from a different region of the world and changes every eight weeks. The Seasonal Menu highlights locally-sourced, in-season foods. Bistro fare and customer favorites can be found on the Specialty Menu. In addition, small plates and tapas are offered on the Mood Lounge Menu.

We enjoyed dishes from three of the four menus. The tuna sashimi nachos included a generous portion of fresh tuna, which was accented well with crispy wontons, sriracha crema, and mango salsa. Eggplant chips and cauliflower steak were excellent options for vegetarians. We finished up with grilled lamb skewers which were perfectly cooked and seasoned with rosemary.
