August Restaurant Feature is Liv’s Oyster Bar

As summer is winding down, we are soaking in the warm sunny days and preparing for end of the year goals. We also continue to enjoy fresh seafood, which we have no shortage of along the Connecticut shoreline. This month, we visited Liv’s Oyster Bar for appetizers, oysters, and lively conversation with friends.

Liv’s Oyster Bar is located right on Main Street in Old Saybrook, with choices for dining outside on the patio, in the dining area, or at the bar. We sat near the raw bar, and immediately began discussing what oysters and clams we wanted to start with. Our service was friendly and accomodating.

After opening in 2006, it’s easy to see why Liv’s Oyster Bar quickly became a staple in Old Saybrook. John Brescio, owner and executive chef, has previous experience at Tavern on the Green and Judson Grill in New York City, as well as Aux Delices in Greenwich. He focuses on creating dishes made from local ingredients, with menus that change seasonally.

After our raw bar selection, we began with our first round of appetizers: Tuna Tacos (from the happy hour menu), Summer Panzanella Salad, and Fried Zucchini with Burrata (from the daily specials). All looked so delicious, we dug in before we started taking pictures!

Our second round consisted of Goat Cheese Stuffed Tempura Squash Blossoms, Sashimi Tuna Pizza, BLT Salad, and Truffle Oil Fries. (Have no fear – we got pictures this time!)  The dishes were full of fresh ingredients, with seasonal sauces that complimented the main ingredients exquisitely.

Liv’s Oyster Bar offers Happy Hour from 4:00-5:30 on weekdays, as well as catering services – both on and off premise. In addition, Liv’s Shack at Harbor One Marina is open during the summer season for fresh lobster rolls, chowder, fish tacos, and more.

We look forward to our monthly restaurant features, and Liv’s Oyster Bar was a perfect selection for August.
